I was
born in Silver Spring, Maryland in August of 1986. At a very young age I
went to live with my grandparents in Olney, Maryland. As I aged, I began to
enjoy art much more than sports like most of my friends would participate
in. In middle school, because of my achievements in my art class, I was
asked to design and construct all the backdrops for the school plays.
This consisted of very large canvases on rolling bases. When I entered
high school, I began to explore the different focuses much more in-depth. I became particularly fascinated with photography.
I took four years of photography classes and worked for those four years at
Photo-Tech Studios in Olney. There I learned to produce custom hand
develop and printed images, digitally restore images, professional photography
and basic photo processing. I left Photo-Tech when I went away to college at
Frostburg State University. Upon entering the University, I had full
intentions of majoring in Photography, however, after having taken a few art
history classes, became infatuated with the processes of abstract art,
specifically painting and printmaking.
I decided to
take the intro levels of these focuses just for curiosities sake, and within
one semester, I had switched my major to a double focus of Printing and
Painting with a minor in Art History. Throughout the 5 years I lived in
Frostburg, I began to favor the works of artists like Krishna Reddy, Jackson
Pollock, Picasso and De’ Kooning, among others. My work began to show
parallels to the artists that influenced me. Over the last two years my
personal style began to become more dominant in my work. I participated
in a juried show in the Saville Gallery. Then I began to enter shows at
FSU for scholarships. I entered 4 of these shows and was awarded
scholarships for 3 of them. My Senior Thesis Exhibit, PRESSED took place
in the fall of my last year at Frostburg. Soon after I graduated with my BFA
degree and moved to my Mom's home in Syria, Virginia. In the fall of 2010
I left Syria to go attend Radford University for my MFA degree. In spring
of 2011 I participated in a group show at the Mail Lee Gallery in Blacksburg,
VA. In December of 2012, I graduated from Radford University with my Masters of Fine Arts Degree. Currently, I am searching for employment as a full time art professor at a university to teach painting or printmaking.
